May 2023 Art Journal

Random observations in May 2023.

Three full months into this project, and I can only summarize this month’s artwork as completely random observations. No real theme emerged. Some days were less inspiring, so on those days I tried to capture some sort of descriptive phrase. Other days the observation was completely hilarious, and often involved misbehaving animals (the crows in the yard are repeat offenders of this).

May 2023 – Week 1
May 2023 – Week 1
  • Nothing stood out for this Monday
  • Talking about the outer planets, and one of them is not a cookie
  • More jazz!
  • Reminding myself to excercise
  • The Coast Guard flies over every day, to which we point and yell, “There’s our boy!”
  • Making art for a labyrinth
  • Biking along the river path
May 2023 – Week 2
May 2023 – Week 2
  • Jingle Cat is one of the neighborhood cats that always likes to say “Hello”
  • Daily yoga – Best preventative maintenance
  • Free sunflowers? Sure!
  • Churros – Honestly one of the tastiest treats
  • I put a sprinkler in the bird water bowl and the crows promptly removed it. They did not approve!
  • I’m an Old Cowhand – Remember this song? I do, from the movie Innerspace.
  • Chippity loves hanging out on the big rock in the backyard.
May 2023 – Week 3
May 2023 – Week 3
  • A little free library, also known as “the neighborhood store” had cool things this time around…weights and videos!
  • Yellow line Metro bridge is open again!
  • Saw the off-Broadway musical Beetlejuice, which was awesome!
  • Going to the office, where the conference room owls (video telecon system) misbehave
  • I kid you not, a 6-squirrel stampede ran past us while we were sitting in the backyard having lunch. I was waiting for a mini chuckwagon to roll through next.
  • Took up a new hobby…skating!
  • Learning to skate in the parking lot. I stay on the little loop for now.
May 2023 – Week 4
May 2023 – Week 4
  • Trash day in the neighborhood yields a fountain, and it still works!
  • Baking extravaganza before the RV trip
  • First RV trip of the season
  • Camping, walking around the lakes of a park, and PLNT Burger
  • Visiting Parker Dam State Park in PA
  • Hiked 9 miles of trails, including extreme route-finding
  • A pie in, pie out trip = Get pie on the way in and on the way out
  • Blueberry was the winner over egg custard
May 2023 – Week 5 (bonus week!)
  • One of my pandemic skills I retained was learning to cut my own hair. Curly hair layers can be a challenge and sometimes they come out a bit wonky. When that happens, just wait 3 weeks and try again!
  • How I learn the names of birds: Google “small grey Virginia bird punk hairdo.” Result = Tufty Titmouse. And they carry peanuts which are just as big as their little bird bodies.
  • Ending the month with a quick trip to Florida for work
